Eye Exams

Eye examinations at Vision Best Eyecare utilize state-of-the-art ophthalmic equipment and personalized attention from the doctor and staff. Your examination will include measurement of visual acuity, intraocular pressure, color vision, depth perception, eye muscle coordination and focusing tests. Your doctor will personally conduct the examination to determine your eyeglass and/or contact lens prescription. The outside of the eye will be examined with a slit lamp microscope and the inside of your eye through a dilated pupil to diagnose diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal degeneration. Also, common systemic conditions detected on a routine eye exam include Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Neurologic disease such as Multiple Sclerosis, Autoimmune Disease such as Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Your eye health is our highest priority.

Children's Vision

A newborn's visual system is immature and change occurs rapidly during infancy and early childhood. Certain developmental milestones should be reached by 6 months of age and this is the recommended time for a child's first eye assessment. Sharpness of vision, eye muscle coordination, and eye health should be evaluated to ensure that continued good vision develops.

Age 3 is a time in development when lazy eye, eye muscle alignment, power abnormalities of the eye, and ocular health again should be assessed. New examination techniques and equipment allow a very comprehensive eye examination to be performed at this age. The younger a child is when certain eye problems are identified and treated, the better the chances are of a successful outcome.

First grade means new friends, new teachers, and the beginning of a lifetime of learning. Up to date vaccinations, a physical by a primary care physician, a visit to the dentist, and a comprehensive eye exam should all be scheduled prior to that first day of school. Eyes can change quickly and children may not complain of problems because they do not realize how they should be seeing. Help your child reach their full learning potential by making an eye examination part of their back to school ritual.

Contact Lenses

We prescribe and evaluate all major brands of soft and rigid contact lenses. In most cases, you will receive a pair of contact lenses and solution kit the same day. There are lenses for people with astigmatism, nearsighted, farsighted, and bifocals. Many designs are now available such as colored lenses, lenses for dry eyes, overnight lenses, and daily disposable lenses that never need cleaning. This means you will receive the best lenses, custom fit for you.

Refractive Surgery

LASIK (Laser In-situ Keratomileusis) is becoming a very popular option for vision correction. We educate our patients about laser surgery, potential risk and side effects and possible visual outcomes to assure that the surgical results meet your expectations. We provide experienced consultation and co-management for Knoxville's top refractive surgeons.
